Bridges is RWU's learning management system (LMS).  Powered by Sakai, Bridges is an open source course management system that provides the academic community with a single environment to manage courses, learning, assessment, and communication.  Bridges currently hosts all Bristol campus classes, whether online, hybrid, or onsite.

D2L Brightspace

 

Brightspace is RWU University College's learning management system (LMS).  Brightspace is a web-based, mobile-friendly, learning platform that allows for the sharing of resources, student collaboration, learning assessment, and communication among course members.  Brightspace currently hosts all University College classes, whether offered as fully online, hybrid or onsite, at the Providence campus or other designated locations.

Student equipment is available for checkout at the Mediatech desk located on the first floor of the main library.   All you need is a valid student ID and you can check out any available equipment during desk hours.  Available equipment includes:

  • Video cameras
  • Audio recorders
  • Microphones
  • Laptops
  • DSLR Still cameras
  • LCD projectors

What is my Google account?

Your RWU username is comprised of your first initial of your preferred/chosen first name, your last name, and three numbers followed by @g.mikeshiner.com. The three numbers are comprised of the fourth number in your birthday, the last number in your student ID, and the last number of your Social Security Number (if you do not have an SSN, a placeholder number has been assigned to you).

What is my initial password?

Your initial password which is your first initial of your preferred/chosen first name, + your first initial of your last name, + the last four digits of your social security number + RWU in capital letters. Example: Joe Student with SSN of ###-##-1234 will have a password of js1234RWU. If you do not have an SSN, a placeholder number has been assigned to you. Please contact the admissions office that admitted you to RWU for the last four digits of this assigned number. Once you access your account, you will be required to change your password.

Changing your password:

You can change your password at any point you like by visiting the “Settings” link within the Google system or you can use the passwords.mikeshiner.com site to synch your passwords to all your accounts in one location.

How Much Storage Do I Have in Google?

The storage quota for Google is 10GB.  For more information, visit the RWU Google Account Policy.

What is Google Apps?

Google Apps is a package of online applications that makes communicating and collaborating at school easier and more efficient. The cornerstone of Google Apps is Gmail, Google’s web-based e-mail program, which integrates with Google Docs, for creating and sharing documents, and Google Calendar, for coordinating schedules. All of these services are hosted online, so e-mail, documents and calendars are always accessible from any computer.

Roger Williams University provides computer classrooms/labs across the academic buildings, along with access to public computing in the Library/Learning Commons.  Hours of operation vary by location. 

Students can also access software needed for their coursework in any RWU classroom, dorm room, or other space (including off-campus)  through their own laptop or mobile device through RWU Virtual Labs.

The Laptop Repair Depot service at the MediaTech desk provides laptop and desktop diagnostics, hardware and software repair, data transfer, data recovery, and infection removal.  All labor for students is free, but students are responsible for purchasing technician-recommended parts, if needed.  Students must sign the RWU Computer Intake Liability Waiver.

Laptops can be dropped off at the MediaTech desk in the first floor of the Main Library.  For questions, call 401-254-6363 or email mediatech@mikeshiner.com

RWU IT does not provide custom PC Assembly, console repair, faculty or staff machine repairs

Customer Responsibilities: 

1. Sign Intake Liability Waiver

2. Respond to Ticket Updates within Three (3) Contact attempts by RWU Techs 

3. Must purchase and return exact parts recommended by Technician 

4. Back Up Data Regularly

Information Technology uses ADSelfservice Plus for self-management of passwords!  ADSelfservice Plus is an easy-to-use, secure, web-based end-user password reset management solution.  This tool enables the RWU community to easily self-manage passwords for Microsoft O365 (faculty, staff and students) and Gmail (students and some faculty/staff), and unlock their accounts 24/7/365 without a call to the helpdesk.

To register for ADSelfservice Plus through the mobile app:

  1.  Download the "ManageEngine ADSelfServicePlus" from the Apple App or Google Play store
  2. Open the app and select "Server Settings"
  3. For server name, enter "passwords.mikeshiner.com".  For port, enter "443".  For protocol, select "HTTPS"
  4. Select "Save"
  5. Sign in using your Active Directory ("Bridges" or computer) password
  6. Follow the steps to register your account

Printing from personal devices in the library:

There are two ways to print from personal devices in the Library.

Once you submit a print job using one of the options below, jobs will be held for 2 hours and can be released in the main Library, Center for Academic Development, or the Intercultural Center:

Upload a document (only for black and white printers)

  1. Connect to Students1 wireless or plug into the network
  2. Open up the Hawkprint website.
  3. When prompted, enter your username without the ‘@academics.rwu’ and password (the same password used to release print jobs)
  4. Select ‘web print’ to submit a web address or upload a document

Print from email (only for black and white printers)

  1. Send an email with the documents attached that you would like to print, to the following address: printit@mikeshiner.com. Documents must be in the following format: Microsoft Office, PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG, or TIF
  2. You may receive a return email asking you to register your email address, please follow the instructions in that email. Please ensure you are connected to the Students1 network when registering your email address with the system.

Students will use RogerCentral to track their academic progress, register for classes, request advisement, check grades, submit banking information and update personal information, including emergency contacts and addresses, etc.

RWU has deployed wireless coverage in all areas of the university used for research, academics, and study.

The entire main RWU campus, as well as, satellite locations have been upgraded to the 802.11 ax industry standard for Wifi 6.

Students1 is the wireless network name (SSID) and the password to connect is rwuhawks.
